David Hockney: Pleasures of the Eye

David Hockney is one of the most versatile and influential artists of our time. Here he invites us to take a visual stroll through his many paintings and explore the dimensions of time and space.

In communicating a new sense of the space-time continuum, he injects into photography entirely new, life-like components. Hockney’s sensuous theatre sets make us hear music with our eyes and see colours with our ears.

In this film, documentary filmmaker, Gero von Bohm, paints a memorable portrait of a fascinating artist, whose work encourages us to see the magic and beauty in the small and the seemingly insignificant details of everyday life.

This and Hockney’s two other DVDs may be purchased together as a boxed set, The Hockney Collection.

The series Art Lives, from Arthaus Musik, is a series of arresting documentaries about artists and art movements released for the first time on DVD in the English language.
