A documentary on the 40th anniversary of the premiere of Samuel Beckett's Not I.
Samuel Beckett’s astonishing monologue Not I, in a performance by critically acclaimed actress Lisa Dwan, was filmed to mark the 40th anniversary of its European premiere. The performance was preceded by a documentary that explores the history and significance of Beckett’s short piece.
The programme includes behind-the-scenes footage of Lisa Dwan preparing for her sold-out run at The Royal Court Theatre, London which took place in May 2013, and gives an intriguing insight into the methods Lisa uses to meticulously rehearse the work which includes practicing blindfold.
The programme also includes interviews with Professor James Knowlson, author of Damned to Fame: The Life of Samuel Beckett, actor Simon Callow, theatre and film director Roger Michell, and Dr Derval Tubridy, senior lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London. The narrator is Paul McGann.
